RB Morris
RB Morris is one of the leading literary figures of Knoxville,
TN. Morris has written the one-man play, The Man Who Lives
Here Is Loony, about the life of Knoxville native and writer
James Agee. Morris played Agee in a video version of the play.
He also edited the respected Hard Knoxville Review literary
journal for a number of years. He has published a book of verse
called The Man Upstairs and is currently involved in a
series of readings from his new book, Littoral Zone. Noted
singer-songwriter Steve Earle once said, "RB Morris
is the reason I started writing poetry."
In the field of music, Morris was signed to John Prine's Oh
Boy Records where he recorded Take That Ride, which included
guest performances by Prine, Lucinda Williams and Al Kooper.
Morris had previously recorded Knoxville Sessions,
which combined his Americana style with spoken word pieces and
traditional mountain music, and it was released subsequent to
Take That Ride. The Knoxville Sessions album
was included in the list of the top 100 albums ever produced
in Knoxvilleby the Knoxville weekly newspaper, MetroPulse. In
1999, Morris released Zeke and the Wheel on Koch Records.
Morris was also one of the artists on Real: The Tom T. Hall
Project.
