Poems by Eric Harrison
THUMB PRINT
reflecting in pools of weird cool water
born from creeks on mountains once molehills
histrionic mud pies that have grown up and left home
frightened insects rising above regardless
crumbled foundation and ash show traces of what was
head house burned to the ground like aged parchment
reserve bodies dried in the sun soaking in gasoline
ignition spells out my name, my past, my present
man's devil pissing napalm onto newborn goals
burnt aspirations scream fruitlessly for help
old gods ignore new blind idiot's gibbering prayer
bitter pagan entities jealous of the jesus fan club
longboats sink as vessels crafted to touch bottom
made to die like sentient meat-on-four-legs mooing
compelled to shit out ugly lies and hopeless innuendoes
plotting maps to the edge of the world with cruel intent
captain's quarters are abandoned, no one at the helm
rocks up ahead pretend they are comfortable chairs
guilty fools keel haul themselves as others dance the plank
hoping for injuries that will lead the way to medication
newspapers beside them twisting tales of woe
unreadable fine print written in foreign tongues
illiterate sailors depressed over a lack of pictures
fumbled loose pages, torn, dog eared, yellowed, stained
thumb prints adorn august pinup whore in sweat shop
worry across minds wondering if she's really a nice girl
what brought this damsel to the pages of jackoff city
from untainted peaks of virgin times when hopes were real
